Vol.6 Finding the ‘Individual’ within the Office: The Role of Design Furniture

SYNC from Cassina ixc. is a line designed by Keita Suzuki. Its lightness is striking, making the products feel far removed from typical office furniture.

The rattan panels, which allow just the right amount of wind and sound to pass through, offer a fresh take on design. Their square shape makes them easy to arrange both centrally and along walls. The result is an environment where one can concentrate even while feeling the presence of other people. Here, too, the key ideas are the ability to concentrate and a sense of freedom.

With sofas, partitions, tables, and benches available, the line allows for diverse ways to arrange a space. For example, they can be used to create private room-like divisions with back-to-back seating or face-to-face layouts across tables, or even café-like meeting spaces.

Designer Keita Suzuki explains, “In public spaces, ‘individual’ means having a place where you can secure time only for yourself while still feeling the presence of those around you. With SYNC, it is possible to combine concentration and freedom and shape spaces in a flexible way. I hope people will experience the novel sense of belonging it creates and see the value in it”, he says.
