Designer Insights: The Future of Offices

Vol.8 Spatial Design Guided by What Your Body Feels: Yusuke Oono’s Vision for Offices

When planning how to divide the floor into different zones, they wanted to take advantage of the ceiling height. "The ceiling height at the entrance is only 2.2 metres, so we made it higher as you go deeper inside. We treated the structural conditions such as equipment, elevators, and ceiling height as 'terrain', using differences in sound, wind, and light as clues to guide the design", he says.

The space was created in the image of prefectural offices and city halls. "Architecture for prefectural offices and city halls inherently possesses universality and communality, making them suitable references for the spatial qualities this project was supposed to have. I designed this place with the idea that it would be nice for it to become a next-generation community centre", Oono adds.
